October 19, 2020 Weekly Update

Weekly summary, travel restrictions for South Dakotans, and link to daily data report are given below. 

Brookings

  • 1,223 cases:  226 new cases this week vs. 151 last week 
  • 333 active cases (record high)
  • 30 ever hospitalized: 11 new admissions this week vs. 6 last week
  • No new deaths
  • Substantial community spread.  For moderate spread need less than 34 cases in a week. 
  • Test positivity continues to be high at 36% (WHO recommends < 5%). 

South Dakota

  • 33,836 cases: 4,911 new cases this week vs. 3,866 last week 
  • 8,388 active cases (record high)
  • 2,146 ever hospitalized: 260 new admissions this week vs. 244 last week
  • As of today, 304 individuals are hospitalized with COVID.
  • 323 total deaths: 35 deaths this week vs. 40 last week
  • Test positivity continues to be high at 37% (record high; WHO recommends < 5%).

K-12 & Higher Education

USA

  • 8.38 million cases: 395,801 new cases this week vs. 355,086 last week
  • 224,730 total deaths: 5,035 deaths this week vs. 5,084 last week

World

  • 40.26 million cases: 2.53 million new cases this week vs. 2.35 million last week
  • 1.11 million deaths: 36,912 deaths this week vs. 39,703 last week
