November 23, 2022: COVID Weekly Data Update

Updates:

Brookings County (low community level; high community transmission [% test positivity = 22% vs. 32% last week])

  • 9,092 total cases:  22 new cases this week vs. 27 in the previous week. Of the new cases this past week:
    • 14% were under 20 years of age (vs. 48% in previous week)
    • 32% were 20-39 years (vs. 22% in previous week)
    • 27% were 40-59 years (vs. 15% in previous week)
    • 27% were 60 years or older (vs. 15% in previous week)
  • 245 Brookings County residents have been hospitalized with COVID: 1 new hospitalization posted this past week compared to none in the previous week.  Currently, the percentage of staffed beds that are COVID-occupied in the Sioux Empire region is 3.3% (compared to 5.8% last week). 
  • 62 Brookings County residents have died of COVID:  1 death was reported this past week compared to no deaths in the previous week.

South Dakota (low community level; high community transmission [% test positivity = 20-24% vs. 25% or more last week])

  • 267,689 cases: 846 new cases this week vs. 953 in the previous week. Of the new cases this past week:
    • 20% were under 20 years of age (vs. 20% in previous week)
    • 23% were 20-39 years (vs. 21% in previous week)
    • 20% were 40-59 years (vs. 24% in previous week)
    • 37% were 60 years or older (vs. 35% in previous week)
  • 12,045 South Dakota residents have been admitted to in-state hospitals with COVID: 41 were admitted to in-state hospitals this week vs. 30 last week (incorrectly listed at 71). Of the new hospital admissions this past week:
    • 2% were under 20 years of age (vs. 0% in previous week)
    • 5% were 20-39 years (vs. 3% in previous week)
    • 10% were 40-59 years (vs. 13% in previous week)
    • 83% were 60 years or older (vs. 83% in previous week)
  • 72 people are currently hospitalized vs. 83 last Wednesday (11 currently in the ICU vs. 9 last week). Currently, the percentage of staffed beds statewide that are COVID-occupied is 3.4% (compared to 3.9% last week).
  • 3,096 South Dakotans have died from COVID:  8 new deaths were reported this week vs. 13 in the previous week.  Of the new deaths this past week, 1 was 40-59 years of age and the remaining 7 were aged 60 years and older.

USA

  • 100.3 million cases:  376,992 new cases this week vs. 276,465 in the previous week
  • 1.10 million total deaths:  3,064 deaths this week vs. 2,107 in the previous week

Worldwide

  • 643.7 million cases: 2.890 million cases this week vs. 2.57 million in the previous week
  • 6.62 million deaths: 11,810 deaths this week vs. 10,038 in the previous week
