Updated South Dakota 2022 Mortality Data

South Dakota mortality data was updated on 4/17/22 and the provisional number of deaths for February of 2022 is 794.  The average number of deaths for the month of February between 2011 and 2019 was 613.  These data are shown below:

Weekly Update:

Just a note on the difference between CDC and SDDOH levels.  In early March, the CDC developed a new definition for ‘community level’ based on new cases, hospital admissions, and the percentage of hospital beds that are occupied (see slides #1 and #9; note that it is not clear what hospital beds the CDC is using for the later percentage estimate).  However, the SDDOH still uses the older definition of community spread for counties based on number of new cases in the previous week and test positivity.  This is the reason for the differences in the levels for Brookings County (we have a high test positivity that puts us in the high spread level).

Brookings data by age for new cases and receiving at least one vaccine were not available this week.  This is noted on the slides that are affected.
